The giant Muni Max has just been born and is already the symbol of the Swiss wood industry. With a height of almost 20 meters, a length of 30 meters, and a monumental structure weighing 182 tons, Muni Max is not just a simple artifact, but a true icon. Created for the Eidgenössisches Schwing- und Älplerfest 2025, Switzerland’s largest folk festival held at the end of August, it will become a tourist attraction destined to last for the next 25 years.

More than two hundred companies, a single supply chain

The project saw more than 220 companies and woodworking training institutes working together. All united for a common goal: to showcase the strength of a value chain that starts in the forest and extends to the most advanced processing and finishing techniques. A team challenge that demonstrates how wood can be not only a material, but also a cultural and social language.

The design and implementation phase was carried out as a collective initiative within the context of HolzvisionMAX, which coordinated carpentry workshops, sawmills, forestry companies, and vocational schools.

The various modular parts of the Muni (structure, cladding, horns, etc.) were produced in workshops and companies throughout the partner regions, then assembled in Mollis (Canton Glarus), in the so-called MuniDorf.

Mollis is in fact the venue for the Eidgenössisches Schwing- und Älplerfest (ESAF) 2025, the major national festival where Muni Max was officially presented.

A total of 600 cubic meters of Swiss fir/spruce wood was used.

The role of Tonet and Renner coatings

One of the key players in this adventure is Tonet, Renner Italia’s technical and commercial partner in Switzerland. Tonet took care of protecting and enhancing the wood with Renner brand products. It is also thanks to our coatings that Muni Max will be able to withstand the elements, maintaining its beauty over time. A transparent 1k water-based primer, formulated by the Minerbio laboratories for both indoor and outdoor use, was used for the fir wood substructure. It protects against moisture and ensures long-term stability.

A challenge of technique and beauty

The Muni Max is not just a wooden colossus: it is an open-air laboratory where traditional craftsmanship and technological innovation come together. In this context, the Renner coatings used on the Muni Max fully embody our corporate mission: “We aim to preserve the beauty that our hi-tech coatings ensure for every surface over time.” In fact, our formulations will protect and enhance a work that will remain in the Swiss landscape for decades. Ultimately, the Muni Max is tangible proof that when we work together, from the forest to the paint shop, wood can be transformed into an icon.
